Session 3 - navigation with map and compass
We are running some training to help upskill members in map reading and navigation. This session will be an introduction topographic maps. You should either have attended session 2 (or are competent using a topographic map (should be able to see the hills pop out at you and know which way rivers are going)
This session will be a small group in person, location TBC - possibly Bundoora parklands
Some of the things we will cover are
- navigating use map features
- introduction to the compass
- magnetic declination
- estimating time
- how to become unlost
- navigating from point A to B with compass (whilst important to be able to do, this is probably the least important part of navigation).
** This session will be kept small to make it easier to practice. Preference will be given to members who have also signed up to the rogaine on the 30th.
After attending this session we will be strongly encouraging members to go practice their skills! Rogaining is a great way to practice.- and we would love some club teams going along to events - let us know if you would like to help coordinate!
