Snowgaine!

The long awaited snowgaine is planned again for this year. This course was set in winter 2019 by VRA and one of our members (Emily) helped set half the course. Then Covid happened and there hasn't been the opportunity for the event to run.

** This event is very dependant on good snow conditions, not just for the day but also the weekend prior so the course can get set. There is the planned date + 2 back up dates (the following 2 fortnights if required - we will move the date in calendar if changes**

Trip Leader: Emily

Date: Planned for 23 July. Back up date #1- 6 Aug, Backup date #2 - 20 Aug

Time: Early early morning

Experience required: Intermediate

You need to be a reasonably experienced hiker (plenty of chance between now and the trip to get that experience) and have the required gear. You also must be confident navigating with a compass as its possible there will be whiteout conditions where can't see the landscape features - if you need a practice signup to the next rogaine!

Destination: Mt St Gwinear

Approx cost: ~$60 (Fuel ~$20-30 + ~$30-40 rogaine entry + gear hire (max $15 if hired from club) + food

Gear The questions below will help the trip organiser work out who needs to hire what.  Skis/boots/poles. Other items max $5/day (max $15 for the day if hired from club)

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the right gear. Trip leaders can answer questions you might have. If you dont have the right gear you may get left at uni and leaders might be unwilling to take you in the future.

More info

Its a rogaine on skis! Small teams will go skiing/snowshoeing to find checkpoints that have been placed across the landscape. Its a bit like an adult version of a treasure hunt!

Skis or Snowshoes? - Depending on your groups ski ability you can choose whether to ski or snowshoe. To be able to do it on skis you will need to have been on a bunch of trips and have demonstrated some minimum skills. Otherwise snowshoes will be a better, faster and more fun option! Talk to Emily about which is best for your team.
