EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The club has been succesful in securing a a state government grant to help us increase female participation in outdoor climbing within the club. As part of this grant the club is offering a limited number of subsidized places for a 2-day top-rope anchors course (Valued at $460).

There are 6 spots available and at least 4 will be reserved for female and non-binary club members.

Given spots are limited, priority will be given to those who can demonstrate the value of them doing training to the club and commit to regularly assiting with/running begginer climbing trips after the training.  All active club members, especially our female and non-binary club members are encouraged to apply.

The course will cover:

  • Anchors. You need the ability to set safe anchors at the top of the cliff, capable of holding a fall.
  • Abseiling. To get down safely, you can either walk (which is how you got up there) or you can abseil. We will learn the latter… with a prusik backup.
  • Belaying and Lowering. You need to know how to safely belay a climber as they ascend the cliff (it’s not just as simple as holding the rope), and you need to know how to safely lower them to the ground after they have finished climbing.
  • Rope Management. As well as tying a Figure-8 for the climber and threading the belay device to belay with, you need to know how to manage the excess rope on the ground and how to care for the rope
  • Safety. You need to know how to create a safe climbing environment by recognising and mitigating the dangers of climbing, by wearing a helmet, using redundant anchors and ensuring your own safety by securing yourself while you build and dismantle the anchors.

Cost to participants will be $50 (heavily subsidised!).  The club will subsidise the rest of the course  - payment will be required to secure your spot.

Dates of course TBC

Click Nominate if you wish to be considered. EOI closes 26th of June.

Deciding who will receive the subsidized training will be done in line with the club guidelines. These questions here will assist the assessment panel to decide who is best to receive the funding. If you don't write information here, the assessment panel won't know about it!
