With winter fast approaching, it is time to brush up on your snow knowledge and skills!
Join us for a social night at the indoor sports centre with Matt Wilson, an experienced mountaineer and snow school teacher from NZ who will sharing his knowledge and experience. Afterwards there will be Pizza and a short film.
This will include:
- Appropriate gear and clothing for surviving (and enjoying) your time in the snow
- Identifying risks in the winter alpine environment, such as avalanche risk zones, weather and choosing safe routes to travel through the snow
- Safety considerations
- Basics of navigating winter alpine environments
XC skiing, snow shoeing and snow camping are all fantastic and fun winter activities but have some unique considerations. This session will help to equip you with some basic knowledge to feel confident to join in on our winter trips. It is open to everyone whether you have never been to the snow or go skiing and camping every weekend during the colder months!
This social night will be followed up by practical, hands on sessions catering to different skill/knowledge levels. To be confirmed once the snow arrives.
Location: Glen college LT (AD-107)
