Overnight hike to Lake Tali Karng in the high country. Lake Tali Karng is a large snowmelt lake nestled in a valley between mountains. It's the only deepwater lake in the Victorian high country.
Trip Leader: Cam
Time: TBC with those coming. Leaving early Saturday morning, returning to Melbourne by Monday evening.
Experience required: Intermediate - ideally you would have some overnight hiking experience and/or familiarity with the Alpine climate; contact the trip leader if unsure
Destination: Lake Tali Karng in Alpine National Park
More trip details:
Saturday morning drive to McFarlane Saddle (approx 5 hours from Melbourne) and hike to Nyimba Camp, with the option of a short side trip to Mount Wellington. 12km all up.
Sunday we'll leave our tents set up and do a day walk down to Lake Tali Karng and around the lake. Approx 10km.
Monday we'll walk back to the car via Spion Kopje track, approx 8km.
If there's interest and a second car available, we could do a point-to-point hike, with the return trip via the more adventurous Wellington River track, which includes 16 water crossings to wade through.
This should be quite relaxed in terms of distances covered but the location is isolated and high country weather can be unpredictable.
